Hailing from Pittsburgh, Todd Griffin, owner of Taste, is a rising star among the underground designers in the steel city. As his clientele base grows, so does his passion.
I first saw Griffin’s designs at Laced Apparel’s “The Show” fashion show back in the Summer. On the runway, his models represented his style – one that is undoubtably unique, in your face – and most of all, fearless. Using materials such as denim, alongside bandanna prints and faux leather, his pieces are urban with plenty of attitude.
Part street style, part hip hop and plenty fun, his designs have caught the eye of Pittsburgh’s trendiest people – who present new challenges for every design.
“My most proud moment as a designer was when I made an item for a client unlike any of my other customers – she was a little person – when I first met her she had so much spirit and life, I was so blown away that she loved what I do. I’m still stunned!”
His gracious attitude and vivacious determination is inspired by the most stylish, powerful women in the world – Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Rita Ora.
“I hope my designs take me to Mercedes Benz fashion week and beyond! I want to [see] it in Macy’s so bad.”
When he’s in his zone, you’ll see Griffin jamming along to the likes of Beyonce and Azealia Banks – with a few drinks of his personal poison (vodka) near by.
His advice for aspiring designers: “Put yourself out there! Be fearless and brave, don’t let anyone stop you. Be original!”
